what happens?
The whole person is addressed in the process of treating physical health issues. Patterns of movement, expression and being are often inextricably linked. Mu practice is a combination of shiatsu (finger-pressure) bodywork, stretching, movement, dialogue, intuitive and holistic counsel.
My multidimensional therapeutic approach helps create a safe and connected space for you to explore the present moment to effect your own healing, and facilitates an integrative experience for a more embodied and connected life experience as well as immediate ease from chronic and acute distress.
This practice is offered in the spirit of respect, equity and self-responsibility.

what is shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a massage-like form of bodywork with origins in 8th century Japan, incorporating the complex principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine now taught within a framework of western medical science.
It works by accessing the meridians (the energy lines, or as I like to call them, the rivers of light) that exist throughout the body, following the energetic principles of Yin and Yang. It utilises a combination of pressure and assisted-stretching techniques, some of which are common to other therapies, such as Massage, Physiotherapy, Acupressure, Osteopathy, Lymphatic Drainage and others. On a physical level, the treatment stimulates the circulation and the flow of lymphatic fluid, releases toxins and deep seated tensions from the muscles, stimulates the hormonal system and the immune system, and acts on the autonomic nervous system, allowing the recipient to relax deeply and to get in touch with their own sovereign healing power.

It is my personal experience that this therapy also accesses deep realms of healing via the sheer power of guided and supportive touch.
We work fully clothed on a mat on the ground, and the body is palpated with the thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, knees, and sometimes feet. We also stretch the body and hold important points of the body for re-vitalisation and reinvigoration.
This nature of deep work can open up many things in our body, mind and soul as we come into alignment and ease, and as we build on our relationships to our breath, to touch, pain, discomfort, and our own boundaries. A good practitioner will give you a space to feel safe in so you can release and let go and tune in to yourself to remember a natural state of harmony. We will talk through together anything that may come up in the process.

"The Non-Corporeal Soul increases tolerance and acceptance of the pain sensation, which paradoxically automatically reduces pain’s noxiousness and intolerableness. The more room for pain, the less it hurts. For the Non-Corporeal Soul, pain and suffering are not something to flee, but a catalyst for the authentication of humanity and the generation of human kindness."
