Valeria is a Chilean Australian multidisciplinary health professional.
My formal training is a weave of traditional healing energy work, humanistic psychotherapy and Western science, useful for health paradigms moving towards more integrative approaches to individual wellbeing. Ultimately, my approach is tailored to the human being in front of me.
Shiatsu has been very important to me, and is unlike any other form of bodywork. Receiving this work was key in transforming my life and relationship to body, thoughts, energy and emotions, so i give this gift to others.
For years I have sought aid and guidance from teachers and holders of traditional knowledge of my own lineages in my native South America, Asia, and here in Australia. I've been the recipient of tremendous kindness and ceremony by Mapuche people in the south of my native Chile, and I've learned many wonderful things from plants, land, people and ritual in the Amazonian and Andean regions of my ancestry. Through my ongoing journey of working on myself and learning to work with others, I have been the grateful recipient of exceptional teachers and mentors. One of them is Australian curandero Simon Green, whose ongoing support, patience and curative skill has over several years been a boon to my life.
A systems thinker, I have years of experience working in many industries including finance, tech, and medical and helped start up a St Kilda creative arts studio. I grok the kind of everyday pressures that we face in our complicated world, in a grounded and realistic way. I appreciate story, diversity, and what moves people. I have spent time working in the social welfare in the community mental health sector, resulting in deeper sensibility, humanisation, advocacy and nuance when working with complexity.
Most recently i completed a mixed-methods Honours thesis in the field of Psychology, investigating treatment use and satisfaction in Australian women with endometriosis,
My areas of particular interest in shiatsu bodywork and somatic psychotherapy frameworks include: helping clients who are facing issues with depression, anxiety and stress, medically unexplained symptoms, chronic pain, fatigue, emotional and physical trauma, disability, as well as tending to issues of women’s health, development, empowerment and spirit. My practice is intersectional, inclusive and LGBTQI+ friendly.
